செம்மொழியாம் தமிழ்மொழியின் பழம்பெருமைகளை இலக்கண – இலக்கியங்களோடு மாணாக்கர்களுக்கு கற்பித்து சிறந்த ஒரு சமூகத்தை உருவாக்குவதே தமிழ்த்துறையின் நோக்கமாகும்.

தமிழ் மொழி சார்ந்த கண்காட்சி மற்றும் போட்டிகள் நடத்தி அவற்றை ஆவணப்படுத்தி எதிர்கால சமூகத்திற்கு வழங்குவது.

தமிழ்த்துறையின் சிறப்பம்சங்கள்

2005 இல் திருவள்ளுவர் பல்கலைக் கழக பாடத்திட்டத்தின்படி கல்லூரித் துவங்கிய போதே அனைத்துப் பாட வகுப்புகளுக்கும் தமிழ் பொது மொழியாக கற்பிக்கத் தமிழ்த்துறை மலர்ந்தது.
மாணாக்கர்களின் தமிழ் - இலக்கிய அறிவை வளர்ப்பதுடன் உலகெல்லாம் பரவி உள்ள தமிழின மக்களின் வாழ்வியலை அறிமுகப்படுத்துவது.
மாணாக்கர்களின் தமிழ் மொழி சார்ந்த படைப்பாற்றல்களை வெளிக்கொணர்ந்து புதிய பல ஆய்வுகளை நிகழ்த்தி தமிழ் மொழித் திறனை மேம்படுத்துவது தமிழ்த்துறையின் இலக்காக அமைகிறது.
அனைத்துத் துறை மாணவர்களையும் ஒன்றிணைத்து தமிழ் மொழியின் இலக்கியச் சுவையானது முறையாக ஊக்குவிக்கப்படுகிறது.
திருவள்ளுவர் பல்கலைக் கழகம் தமிழில் பகுதி நேர முனைவர் பட்ட ஆய்வை மேற்கொள்ள அனுமதி வழங்கி உள்ளதைத் தொடர்ந்து தமிழ் முனைவர் பட்டத்திற்கான தமிழாய்வுப் பணி இத்துறையில் நடைபெற்று வருகிறது.
அனைத்துத் துறை மாணவர்களையும் ஒன்றிணைத்து ஆண்டுதோறும் கலை இலக்கிய விழா நடத்தப்பட்டு அதில் வினாடி வினா, குறள் ஒப்புவிப்பு, பேச்சுப் போட்டி, கட்டுரைப் போட்டி, ஓவியப் போட்டி, கவிதைப் போட்டி, சிலம்பாட்டம், ஒயிலாட்டம், கரகாட்டம், தப்பாட்டம் என நடத்தப்பட்டு பரிசுகளும் வழங்கப்படுகின்றது.
தமிழ்நாடு அரசுத் தேர்வாணையம் நடத்தும் போட்டித் தேர்வுகளுக்கு மாணவர்களை தகுதிப்படுத்தும் நோக்கத்தோடு பிற திறன் மேம்பாட்டு வகுப்புகள் நடத்தப்படுகிறது.

Department of Physical Education

About the Department

The physical education department has been functioning in this college from the academic year 2015-2016 in which the college was started and affiliated with thiruvalluvar university, vellore. The department focus competitive knowledge through sports activities to horn the students skill. In coordination with the university physical education department various sports activities have been carried out. The department is equipped with full fledged sports articles to cater the needs of all students. The department trains students in various sports activities, individual events and team games like Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, etc., and also Athletics. From 2021-2022 affiliation for first years is transfered to annamalai university, Chidambaram.

The college celebrate “sports day” in every year. There will be various sports competitions. All students will participate and play games as per their wishes. Prizes and certificates will be awarded to the winner and runner students as an incentive of create interest in sports activities. In addition, the winners will be selected and given extra training individually in all kinds of competitions that being held Divisional level, Inter divisional level, University level and All India inter university level.

Vision

To provide students and faculty with exposure of knowledge to interact with local, national and global level sports activities. The department of physical education committed to committed to instill, creativity and innovative knowledge in sports world. And creative personality development to show individuality.

Mission

Physical education and sports activities is an important component of the ST.ANNS’ college. To conduct activities to inculcate improve skills, fitness, and knowledge.

Events and Achievements

“ International Yoga Day” is celebrated in this college on 21^st June in every year. A specialized person in yoga therapy is invited and demonstrate yoga practice to all the students. This make them free and fresh in day today life.

Fr. Duffy Memorial Trophy Badminton Tournament 8th September 2016

The PEASA organised a grand annual sports meet in the college campus. In that active participation of all department students along with staff. Students show their interest and talent in sports.

Inter Division Chess

In the division chess match five districts Arts and Science college students were participated. These are belonging to the Thiruvalluvar University in this event over this participants our college student Mr.George Fernondaz got second place.

Inter Divisional Basketball

Inter divisional basketball held on 17th September 2017 organized by the Sacred Heart Arts and Science college Thirupathur. In this match our college basketball team secured IV place.

Inter College Meets

Inter College Athletic Meet organized by the Adhiparasakthi College Kalavai on . In this event our college students have secured places in various events.

Department of Mathematics

About the Department

The Department of Mathematics is one among the vibrant departments serving the academic needs of the students and also adhering to the Vision and Mission of the Institution which was framed by our late patron Rev. Fr. Thomas Gavan Duffy. Since its inception in 2015, the Department aims to provide a quality education to the students with a sound understanding of the fundamentals and applications of Mathematics leading to development of Technologies for the benefit of mankind.

The department started to function with 2 faculty members along with 27 students at R. C Teacher Training Institute, Tindivanam in the year 2015. Later, in the following academic year 2016, the department was shifted to our present campus situated near Marakkanam Road, Tindivanam.

In order to promote talents of the students in co-curricular and extracurricular activities, Mathematical Association of St. Ann’s (MAS) was initiated on 15th August 2016 with grand splendour. The association provides ample opportunities for the students to develop their creative thinking, leadership skills, artistic talents, cooperation and coordination by conducting beneficial seminars, guest lectures, paper presentations, workshops, technical events and cultural activities.

Department of English

About the Department

The Department of English was established as a major department in the academic year 2015-2016 under the affiliation of Thiruvalluvar university. It was upgraded into Postgraduate department in 2018. From the academic year 2021-2022 the college and course has been affiliated to Annamalai university.

The department offers bridge course for all the first year students and it also offers communicative English, effective communication as an add-on courses to the non-major students.

The department has good collection of books for English language and literature. In 2016 in order to broaden the field of literature, department of English founded the English literary Association of St.Ann’s (ELAS). The department involves third year UG students in industrial visit to develop their knowledge and skill in English Literature and Culture. With the constant support to our staff members many of our students have participated and won overall championships and prizes in various inter-collegiate literary meet. In addition to the traditional chalk and talk method, special interactive classes by applying group discussion, question-answer, demonstration method are arranged to encourage the students and to improve their learning. In- house activities organized frequently by the department to help the students acquire knowledge and self-confidence.

The Department of English is conducting special classes to the slow learners for the academic betterment of the slow learners. The hidden creativity of the students is manifested through the publication of wall Magazines in the classrooms. Interest is grown among the learners by showing them films on different dramas and novels in the syllabus.

From 2017 onwards, Department of English has been conducting an inter-collegiate literary meet in the name of SACAURA. Moreover, Drama, Slide Shows are arranged on various drama topics on the syllabus to create interest among the students to provide additional information in the literary arena.Graduated students. Being the humanitarian department, we also provide the knowledge based education with societal concern. St. Mother Teresa said, “erving the poor and the needy is equal to serving God”. In order to prove the words of Teresa our students are actively involving social services such as, donating blood , cleaning villages, planting saplings in public places, teaching school students and uneducated people in village.

We, the Department of English are working seriously to develop in the field of linguistics and its aspects along with the core knowledge of literature and communication.
We want to infuse creativity along with critical thinking.
The primary motive is to use English as a medium of language to tap the heart of commoners and to break the image that the spoken language is not a herculean task in terms of looking at the world in a majestic way.
We also are in plan to make that literature is not limited in language alone, it has to surpass beyond the human existence.
In near future we would like to make literature to reflect the societal concern and has to withstand the humanitarian effects in all possible ways.
We are working on the students to create the research attitude in their minds and by exploring the literature in a modern pursuit.
We aim to inculcate the diverged education in accordance with current scenario and also prepare our students as an active agent to wipe away the homogeneity which is giving the narrow minded thoughts.
Through education we would like to imply that the art is not alone in representing the stereotypical ideas but we would like to offer the art can also be extended in all domains.
The focal point of the Department is to provide the holistic education.
We are setting an image that English language is not a language of aristocrat alone but the language of all
We are twisting the theoretical perspectives with practical ideas through the creative amalgamation.
We are paying attention to each individual with steady and gradual as an expectation prevalent in the society.

Apart from the prescribed academic syllabus we are also imparting knowledge for them to face the competitive examination all across.
We are also striving our possible efforts in making our students to perceive their other activities related to the literature and its components by giving practices for them to go for competitions in various intercollegiate literary meets.
The crux of our department is to offer the knowledge based education than merely providing and education based for marks.

Department of Computer Science

About the Department

The Department of Computer Science was started in 2015– 2016. The course was affiliated by Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore. The department started with 35 interesting students. In the following years considerable number of students who were very interested in computer education got enrolled. The department has experienced, qualified and dedicated faculties to make the students successful in all their studies. From the inception of this department, ninety five percent of students were successfully employed in various fields. Considering the research knowledge with emerging development in computing technology it became necessary to start Post Graduate course in computer education. Hence the Department has been upgraded as a PG Department of Computer Science. The Postgraduate programme – M.Sc. Computer Science was started in the year 2018 – 2019. The PG students are being inculcated with research knowledge to meet the emerging trends and challenges.

Computer Lab

The Primary goal of a well-equipped computer lab is to provide our students with assistance to enhance their capabilities of success in their assignments. We have separate computer lab for both UG and PG courses. The labs are fully air conditioned lab with adequate system. They are connected with internet facilities via high-speed. It has LAN that further has hubs and switches – manageable and unmanageable. Our computer lab provides the students as well as faculties with high bandwidth internet speed making them proficient abreast of all the advanced technological developments around the world. One doesn’t have to worry about the power cuts too, as the college computer lab is equipped with powerful backup 24*7. Our college is WiFi Enabled, which helps the students work on their assignments from anywhere in the campus. Our round the clock WiFi facility makes sure the PG students at our campus surf the net, gathering knowledge to their best. We encourage our students to carry out research studies for their projects. Through this, they can build their hands on experience and upgrade their learning skills. Ample time is allotted to all students along with optimum lab exposure. Trained and experienced teachers provide both theoretical and practical lessons for students to help them navigate a rapidly changing technology driven world.

Industrial Visit

The students are taken to small and large scale industrial visits based on the academic study. Educational tours are also organized according to the curriculum framed, there by students are able to learn and experiences sharper business skills and acumen.

The Department has also a library to serve the students in academic activities. It has a rich and vast collection of more than hundred books. In addition to that Periodicals and updated reports are kept and preserved in the library. Copies of project reports of teachers, PG students, seminar reports, publications are also maintain in the department library to cater the needs of students and faculties for references in future.

About the Department

The department of Commerce is one the pioneering departments stared in the academic year 2015-2016, with 48 enthusiastic students. Subsequently, every year the department is running with full strength of the students sanction by the Thiruvalluvar University. The Department providing high quality of Education in the field of Commerce, Research methodology and information technology by a team of faculty members with social responsibility.

Course offered

Department offer under graduation course B.Com General w.e.f 2015-2016 approved by Affiliated with Thiruvalluvar University. In the year 2021-2022 for first year UG students run by Affiliated Annamalai University. The department also under going P.hD part time in Commerce section from January2018.Department always achieved centum result through the years. The department of Commerce have a commendable number of text books and Commerce, Accountancy written by a honor Authors as approval by the University.

Association Activities

The department of Commerce has an Association St.Ann’s Association of Commerce (SAACOMM). It conducts International and National conference, workshops, seminars, paper presentations and exhibition for every year to improve the skills and knowledge of the students. The department conducts add on courses like personal development courses, Tally with new version and digital Marketing for the development knowledge of the students.The staff also participated in Entrepreneur Development Programme Hub with Annamalai Univeristy,Chidamparam and implemented it to the students.The students also are allowed to participate talent full competitions conducted by other colleges. The department conduct every year Industrial Visit under the scheme of extension activities .The department also to gives an opportunity to the students for practice sports activities as well as other curriculum activities to enable them to acquire more knowledge and en-shine in society.

Our department organized one day national Workshop on Employability Skills on 23.04.2022 integrated with Training Indian Potential skills Academy , Vellore. Resource person N.S Vijayganesh- Director TIPS Academy, Vellore.( Certified soft skill trainer).

The Undergraduate Course Bachelor in Computer Applications was started in this College in the academic year 2015-2016 under the affiliation of Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore.
